Norfolk Island Adventure

page 5

We carry on downhill.

Another anonymous stranger.

and here's a healthy looking Meryta angustifolia. I'll stand corrected but that's my best guess.

Here's a really lush subtropical looking plant. With these "unknowns" I'd welcome the help of any knowledgeable locals who can give me even a common name.

There is a tree here whose habit of bearing its flowers and seeds on the stem reminds me of our mahoe, but the leavers are much heavier and harder.

Here's the pepper tree, again, a close relation of our kawakawa.

and here we are, back at the road.

As you can see, a reasonably fit walker could get through most of these in a couple of days or less, but there is a lot to take in and maybe fatman time has its uses.

We head on back to the car. Notice the gabion construction reinforcing the banks.

The bank shows the red soil colour characteristic of much of the island. Bonny has a change of jandals waiting at her door to avoid tramping it inside.

Some more of the golden passionflower

a sturdy local Dianella

and we're back to the car. Round trip about an hour and a half, fatman time.
